The article Some With Histories of Mental Illness Petition to Get Their Gun Rights Back describes how a man with bi-polar disorder who has had many relapses successfully petitioned a court to have his gun rights restored. When properly medicated he is sane. But, the rub is that he has gone off his medication in the past.

Mental Illness is a complicated issue. I do not believe the problems Thomas Eagleton had, "physical and nervous exhaustion," should have precluded him from running for vice president nor should it preclude him from owning a gun. On the other hand the case described in the NY Times article appears to be much worse and in my opinion should prevent gun ownership.

Read the article and let's debate the issue. Please let's not debate RKBA in general rather stick to the issue of mental illness and gun ownership.

I had no idea that putting RKBA in the title with a : would generate such a discussion that is irrelevant to the topic I am pursuing. I am not a member of the RKBA group, however, I would have published the diary there if I was a member. The intention was only to bring up what I consider to be an important RKBA issue. I had no idea people were so sensitive.

I have read some, though not all diaries published to the RKBA group. To me the rotating graphic at the top of the diary indicated that the diary was first published there, not RKBA in the title.
