The dirtiest, sleaziest campaign attack this year! BOB NEY.

Congressman Bob Ney (R-OH), desperate to attack his Democratic opponent Zack Space, decided to take the low road. Yesterday he sent an email, a press statement, and blasted "auto calls" to voters in Ohio attacking Zack Space for appearing on a talk show! Click here for a previous blog posting.

It didn't stop there. Bob Ney then attacked the talk show host, Rachel Maddow of Air America Mornings, calling her "a cross dressing lesbian." Rachel offers a great response on her web site. "Whaddaya think?  Does going on Air America Radio, or being interviewed by a gay person make a candidate unfit for office? More than, I dunno, having your chief of staff plead guilty to bribing you?"

Meanwhile, two of Ney's top aides have been subpoenaed in the Jack Abramoff bribery investigation. Paul Vinovich, formerly Ney's top aide with the House Administration Committee, and Will Heaton, Ney's current chief of staff, both accompanied Abramoff, Ney, Ralph Reed, David Safavian, and Neil Volz on an Aug. 2002 golf trip aboard a private jet to Scotland.
