We had the right candidate, at the right time, with the right message. We won all the debates and had concrete solutions to all the domestic problems. We had all the necessary endorsements. We had a driven and mobilized GOTV effort. We had enough money. We lost because we didn't anticipate the gay rights wedge issue and effectively counter it in the evangelical Christian communities. Had we preemptively targeted the ec's in Ohio and Florida with mailers and leaflets on their windshields during mass we could have blunted the last minute Rove tactics. If we couched our message in biblical terms, the message could have resonated.
If we would have seriously compared the teachings of the new testament with the policies of Bush we would have easily won. Instead of mocking the Bushversus Jesus analysis we should have embraced it. If we had used the term "false witness" when we referred to lying or misleading, the message would have stuck. We ignored the ec's and it cost us the election. For the future we must reach out to the ec's in language that they understand and terms that strike a chord. Being right doesn't matter unless people understand the message. Vigilence!
