In an all too unfortunate example of allowing the insane to gain access to the public forum, we get
this:
Well, I agree with the president that some Democratic senators have targeted the judicial philosophy of the nominees. But that judicial philosophy has been scrutinized and scorned in several cases precisely because of the nominee's belief system or faith -- not because of his or her record. After all, it was Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) -- not the Family Research Council -- who launched an inquiry into one key nominee's "deeply held personal beliefs." Schumer didn't challenge the nominee's "deeply held judicial philosophy," but rather his beliefs.
Of course it is precisely NOT because of those beliefs per se, but because those beliefs are translated into judicial activism of the worst kind, that these candidates are being opposed by everyone but the so-called "religious" right and their corporatist and neo-con allies.
Perkins then calls out a few of the most minor among the list of transgressions that these nominees have committed and presents them as the primary offense that motivated "liberals" to attack them.
He closes with the canard that this is unprecedented obstructionism and that these nominees deserve an "up or down vote".
We need to SWAMP the Post with feedback that shows that the vast majority of people vehemently reject this type of Taliban-style mentality. Send an email to the Post editors that carefully makes the following points:
1 - It is not because of the nominees beliefs per se, but the fact that they zealously inject these beliefs into judicial decisions that even their peers critize as unnecessarily activist and clearly beyond the pale with respect to adherence to precedent and the intent of the Constitution and the law
2 - Why should these most unfit nominees be granted the privilege of an up or down vote when the Republicans ensured that dozens of far more fit Clinton nominees were not granted the same privilege
3 - This attempt by the "religious" right to capture the judiciary (which is mostly Republican already) is a threat to our democracy by a faction that is the American equivalent of the Taliban and must be stopped.
Fire back!
