I rarely post anything directly plugging
my blog but today I came across a scientific article which blew my mind and directly relates to my online space.
If you've ever visited my blog, you've probably seen the quote on the righthand side of the screen as well as the picture of a monkey typing on a typewriter at the top of the screen. All along I was using it as sort of a metaphor for me flogging my own "inner simian" to blog all the posts many of you kind people come and read on a daily basis.
But it turns out sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. The scientists over at First Genetics have been training an "manipulated" mandrill monkey to type simple phrases and words in English:
A company named First Genetics has cracked the Primate genetic code and created the world's first genetically modified monkey.
"Marty the Mandrill," as they've named him, "is also the first genetically modified organism to show signs of intelligence manipulation through selective chromosome laser enhancement. The result has stunned the science world. Marty is the only primate able to communicate with Homo Sapiens in their own language via typing in English."
I'm sure the website is jammed but apparently you can actually communicate with "Marty" if you are patient and have a good Internet connection.
If I can get through, I'll post the transcript here later.
Peace
