Is wiretapping of American citizens without a warrant simply something that has been done by US Presidents for 30 years, available to any ol' FReeper with minimally adequate search skills? Is it something practiced by Presidents Carter and Clinton, pursuant to Executive Orders that can be posted by Matt Drudge within a day of the NYT story breaking?
Or is it a grave matter of national security - a grand secret - the disclosure of which serves only to help Al Qaeda and our enemies?
It is illogical to claim both. Either it is something we've 'always' done - as evidenced by documents easily Googled, or it is something so secretive that the disclosure of it is harmful to our national security.
Seems the President and Mr. Mehlman need to get on the same meme.
