As anyone who has read anything I've posted on here knows.. I'm a Southern born and bred Democrat. Lived in N.Florida, GA, NC.. Mostly in small small rural towns. So I do have some basis for saying things like this.
We don't need the South to Win in 04.
You know it, I know it, and really the Republicans know it.
Don't get me wrong.. I'd LOVE to win back the South one little part at a time, it ISN'T going to happen all at once, the same way we didn't lose it all at once.
Go see for yourself.. go here

Its already adjusted for the census.. with the right numbers.
Guess what?
Assuming that whomever the nominee is holds all the Gore states (Which I feel fairly comfortable with.)
We take AZ, guess what, WE WIN.
OK, lets say we take OH (Deans been saying for a while OHIO is the key.) WE WIN.
We retake WV,take NH, and SD WE WIN.
And in my heart I think ALL of these will be EASIER than trying to "win back the south" at this point in time.
Hell.. really, I just want a Democrat in the Whitehouse, and then in the midterms try and get Democrats elected in the South.
I'm not saying write the South off, but look at the numbers, its not a "Must win"
The repubs know this kind of stuff.. its one reason tha they don't get all hoped up about the NE overall. The NE is a basically blue area, yeah there are some Repubs who get elected, but the region as a whole is Democratic. And the Republicans know that wasting a lot of time and money in the NE is a bad idea strategy wise, so they focus elsewhere.
I think this is what we whould do for the South.. this this is VERY winnable WITHOUT the South.
Its going to be a LONG 20-30 year "slog" to retake the South, there is NO magic bullet that will do it.
