That is right, I asked for a slave. A real slave. A real African person who is captured in a raid and is legal property - traded and treated as disposable. A person who is disposable property - with no rights.
You can buy a slave also:

And so on Mother's Day I have asked that in my name some other mother's child be made free. Some mother's child will not be property, not be living a hell that makes Uncle Tom's Cabin look like a fairy tale. Slavery is real and it exists today. Slavery is not history.
If you do not think freeing a slave is right for you and your family here are some other gifts:

You can buy a goat, a cow, chickens or bunnies to raise a family above subsistance.
I know that heifer and iAbolish are good organizations. Here are some others I have not checked out.
Or you can adopt various wildlife, including whales:

wolves:

big cats recovering from captivity

or big cats in the wild

Or trees, or rain forest, or some other treasure that is worthy of the celebration of continuity of life. Make this holiday a real celebration of life in the face of the culture of death we face today. Take Sunday and face the sluaghter of war, the mindless death of women seeking repoductive care and all the other atrocities created in the name of "life". Make it a day to fight back with celebration, and knowing you made a difference.
Alternatively you could buy some lovely products of slavery, you know, stay in the mainstream for Mothers Day.
