In a spectacular leap forward for preventative medicine it was announced today that "German Measles" has been eradicated in the United States with Canada soon to follow.
We Live in the twenty first century people. Some benefits should acrue.
Despite all the current administration's attempts to quell, slow, or outright forbid scientist from addressing some of our country's most pressing medical problems, this is great news indeed.
No doubt BushCo will try to take credit amid cuts in funding for a broad range of science/medical research programs.
Considering the gang who blew the Flu Vaccine Availability debacle...it is now more a matter of how to keep the government OUT of the labs rather than a forward looking national program to support scientific endevours with federal dollars.
This once great country could obliterate so many diseases with the science that is known TODAY, let alone what stem cell and other "magic bullet" research could cure given even an iota of support from the present administration.
Anyway...This news was tremendously welcome as I turn 50 and vividly recall three days of intense itching when I was but 3 years old. My three small kids will not need to battle this disease themselves...and children around the world should benefit as well.
To all the researchers and medial staff involved...A HEARTY well-done!
