Well, you may be aware I promised updates as they happen in my DFA National Dialog on Social Security related quest to meet with my neocon congressman,
Elton Gallegly, who is notorious for never being in his district in the first place.
Today, Pam Roller, his D.C. Staffer in charge of his schedule, left me a very polite message on my phone informing me that "the congressman would be unable to meet with me, since he will be in Washington".
I called her back. I asked her could we meet with staffers then as the issue of Social Security was important to us. She said she'd review my request with the staff and get back to me.
This is going about like I'd anticipated. I suspected Gallegly , a neocon, feels no obligation to respond to anyone in his district that did not vote for him. It's the sort of attitude prevalent since GW Bush landed on us. Basically a freeze out of any and all interests not 100% devoted to their views.
Of course, since I have invited the media, it looks like it will be a one-sided debate on the issue, with me having to supply what I imagine the staff or the congressman himself might say in rebuttal to our arguments on ths issue.
I'll let you go but plan an extensive lecture on the subject, which includes reference to a speech W made when running for office in 1978 where he predicted the SS system would "go broke in about a decade"
So , like all good neocons , he has hated this program for a long long time, because it's an example that Democrats give a damn about the little guy, that government CAN do something right and that Roosevelt was a giant of a President, compared to the pipsqueak who currently holds office.
