I just heard about these radio ads accusing the democratic party of being the party of no, Just saying no to every proposal that the majority party makes. This has to be one of the stupidest things that I have ever seen. Are people out there really unreasonable enough to think that someone voting according to their own opinion is wrong? I really hope not.
What seems to happen is that the republican leadership makes a proposal that has about 50% (often less) support in America. Then they accuse the democratic party of being the party of no for not agreeing with will. Well if HALF THE COUNTRY doesn't agree with it then why are you surprised that about half the congress doesn't agree with it.
The congress was bad enough when it was 2 parties bickering endlessly over differing political ideals and making no real effort to compromise or consider what is best for the country, but these days it's even worse. The response to any opposition is often just a personal attack that really has no bearing on the validity of the issue.
For example, DeLay, when caught up in his scandal hardly bothered answering the accusations he just figured it was easier to blame the condition on those `liberals' out to get him. Well even if they are, if you did it you still did it. And the saddest part is many Americans get caught up in this and forget what the issue actually in. Or in this case the answer to democrats being opposed to certain judges or social security is not to argue the actual policy, but instead to attack the democrats for whatever reason they can.
Maybe we should call the Democratic Party the "we don't want none of you bs" party
