Perspective is needed to understand our path to empire building. It is instructive to listen to the words of another empire's propagandist to understand the mindset of true believers and how the pursuit of power never really changes throughout history.
The diary quote I will post here are from "The Goebbels Diaries 1942-1943" by Louis T. Lochner. I hope you find them as insightful and illuminating as I do. I will continue post Goebbels daily diary quotes in the days ahead in hopes that his words will resonate with those who are concerned with the propaganda and actions of the Bush Administration.

It is interesting to note from a letter of an important person at the front that the attitude of the ...troops....is quite different from what we conceive it to be....the point is made that one can get along...(with the enemy)..only by being severe with them.....There is something to be said for this viewpoint, even though,...it can't be denied that more can be done with good propaganda than with no propaganda at all.
At noon, I received the...press...to inform them in a question and answer period about the important political, military, and personnel problems. Some very ticklish themes were touched upon, but I was easily able to outplay the questioners. I believe I have once again fought an important news battle by this reception. The echo in the...press will no doubt be very great, possibly even sensational.
During a war news should be given out mainly for instruction and not for information. Not every item of news should be published; rather must those who control news policies endeavor to make every item of news serve a certain purpose. Unfortunately we do not always keep this in mind.

The Committee of Three met in the afternoon. There were a number of heated debates. The administration of justice is being overhauled exactly according to my ideas. Appeals in civil trials will no longer be possible in the future. That will save a lot of personnel and material.
