This battle is fought with daily word volleys, and most of ours have not been crafted carefully enough to stick in people's minds and turn voters.
How can a candidate hope to be elected to office without setting up a think tank to turn out focused, catchy messages and quotes so clever and cute that they must be repeated by the media every day?
What is Kerry's message? Would any two Americans give the same answer? The other side's simple, sad, message is "Vote for us or die."
I love our candidate, but believe he is losing the battle for public respect because his message is not focused, articulated or emotional.
President Kerry needs to sound like a fighter. His message must energize our base and call for undecided voters to be involved.
I propose that Sen. Kerry use the soundbite
"Don't let them get away with it," to set up his talking points.
A repetative, speaking theme to frame issues is critical.
"Don't let them get away with it," is a call to arms general enough to appeal to the least educated among us. . . for it addresses injustice. . and deep inside, we all recognize that the world is unjust and we want to make it better.
I'll never understand why ambitious leaders don't articulate fights for justice, head on.
The theme "Don't let them get away with it," when coupled with a call to "Take a friend to vote." could become a memorable and valuable addition to our campaign.
We need a "Get in their face" attitude. Our candidate has the world listening every day.
