Evening, all.
So a little irony before you go leaping into today's C&J. One of our JEERS is directed toward the Portland Press Herald which, despite a fantastic turnout for last weekend's gay pride activities, wrote not a word about them. And yet, this morning on the front page of section B was a large photo and lengthy article about an event that always coincides with Pride weekend up here: the Jehovah's Witness conference.
The irony: this exposé on a gay-hating religious sect was written by, yes, an openly-gay reporter. WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERING THE CELEBRATION GOING ON DOWN THE STREET.
Y'know, it's bad enough the Press Herald just lopped off an inch-and-a-half from the width of its paper ("we did it for our readers," they said with fingers crossed behind their back). But their total brush-off of pride events after a tumultuous year for gays and lesbians is inexcusable. Thhhhppppt!
Okay. Here's your evening link. Go vote. And don't tell me no one wants to have a beer with a bald eagle. Rick Santorum says there are plenty of man-on-bird types out there...
