A Wedge Issue to Remove Republicans

With the upcoming elections, what is an effective Wedge Issue to use to remove Republicans? How about Science?

One way to defeat incumbents is by finding a good Wedge Issue that voters can focus on. Terrorism and the Economy are being effectively used by Republicans (although they are failing at both). Voters focus on the Issue and not the Result.

My idea for using Science came from the current statements by our President:

No Stem Cells

Intelligent Design

The idea is to have candidates really push the medical issues related to Stem Cells and the idea that we are failing to teach Scientific Methodology. We can argue that Republicans are not only wrong about these issues, but their refusal to support medical research and Science means you and your children will continue to suffer various medical problems that could be cured. The result of moving away from Science is a bleak future for your children. ("Save the Children from the Republicans").

Polls have indicated that a clear majority of Americans take medical issues very seriously and support Stem Cell research.

This may be a very effective Wedge issue. It works because the Republican base has tied its future to the Christian Right and they cannot back out of their rejection of both Medical Advances and Scientific Progress.
