On my lunch hour and no time to browse for similar entries. If this duplicates other posts, I can take it down.
I got the following email from my brother (edited for grammar & etc. because, well... He was just too f**king pissed to type straight):
Lack of communications is a major problem in the [Hurricane ravaged] area. The Carbondale (IL) National Guard unit is-- Surprise!!!!! A communication unit, 30 or 40 pick-up truck like hummers with little communication shacks on the back, each pulling a trailer with a small generator and large fuel tank. Guess what???? Go ahead, guess...
Did you guess? I'll bet you got it right:
Guess what???? Go ahead, guess... Yep, they're still parked at the armory and nobody in sight.
JD's [my brother's son--ds] Air Force unit mans portable generators and [are] trained to have them set up and cranking power (at least on a local scale) in the matter of a couple of hours. He s also stationed at a base with a whole wing of large transport aircraft which can easily transport said generators & tow vehicles. They also have the ability to defend themselves if necessary. Guess what they're doing... Yep, no sign of activity.
I know posse comitatus applies, but surely some exemption applies for support units of this nature in a natural disaster situation.
Wasn't that a nice picture of Bush looking out the window of Air Force One??? Didn't he look concerned????
How about you? What's happening in your area? Are the local guard or reserve units being activated? Is help on the way? What's sitting around out there in your neighborhood that might be--you know--useful?
