Chuck Hagel is the co-chair of Bush's campaign in Nebraska and is on the Foreign Relations Committee. I don't know the political backstory between Hagel and Bush, but I saw an interview he did with CNN today where he sounded more like a Democrat than a Bush supporter.
First he talked about our errors in Iraq, specifically not having UN support from the beginning, and said he believes we need a coalition of support starting right now.
Not satisfied with that slam on the Administration, he had even harsher words about the foiled appointment of the Manufacturing Czar: "The White House was inept, incompetent. I was stunned by what happened.... This was gross incompetence on the White House part."
Are the moderate Republicans finally seeing Bush for what he is: a right-wing radical?
