Elisabeth Rosenthal writes today in the NYT about swing voters in swing states - the holy grail of presidential politics. Naturally, over at the Swing State Project, we thought we'd take her on, particularly over her poor, almost innumerate use of numerical data, coupled with an over-reliance on that journalistic mainstay, the allegedy representative anecdote.
The conclusion? It's time for someone to adopt Rosenthal. Even though in this case, the content of her article seems to favor us - one-time Bush voters are apparently saying they'll vote Dem this time around - I'm concerned about her reporting in the future. She's apparently covering the national presidential campaign, so she seems like a worthwhile subject for an adopt-a-journalist blog.
