KErry will obviously, as anyone would, say that winning the VA and TN primaries shows he CAN win in the South. I would caution against buying into that spin. What he shows in doing this is that he can win AMONG DEMOCRATIC PARTISANS in the South. Not a big surprise that the frontrunner in the primaries wins two primaries.
The question is, can Kerry stack up as well as Edwards would against George W. Bush in a general election in the South.
I am not sure he could. I think Edwards is showiung an ability to win rural white voters. Those voting for Kerry today would clearly vote for Edwards in a general. Would the Edwards voters vote for Kerry?
