Most of us are not like the rest of the country. I live in the Midwest, the Heartland, the Bible Belt if you will...we have very nice people named Pearl and Hank living amongst us who work on farms, don't touch computers and raise hogs or soybeans. They aren't evil. They aren't racist or want big corporations to control the world...but they aren't going to go for a vegan (Kucinich) or yes, even the man, Dean. They aren't even going to go for John Kerry, i am afraid, (maybe i am wrong, and if he gets the nomination, i sure as hell hope i am wrong). I really honestly believe that Edwards is the only one who can get the nice folks named Pearl and Hank.
And it is kinda selfish of us to demand that Pearl and Hank (and yes, i realize i am being patronzing to name them that...but it speaks to the ironic hipster in you, admit it.) be like us, you know all cool, artsy, politically savvy, slightly ironic with a dash on earnest fervent hope that since everyone we know likes the things we do that means everyone we don't know does too! We have to admit that we live on a diet of Comedy Central, blogs like Kos, and the Onion. Things that our friends Pearl and Hank, aren't ever going to like, even if we show them the way.
Presidential politics isn't about picking your best friend. It is about picking the person who can be a friend to the most people. Not just you. So, yeah, we might have to suck it up and vote for slick southern charmer Edwards...He is someone i really think people like Pearl and Hank can feel comfortable with...why he reminds them of their nice son, Stuart...Now, i know, these are the people you might not want to hang out with (oh, so very high school of us) but these are the people that make up America. You gotta love Pearl, Hank and Marge and you gotta give them someone who everyone can like and feel safe with...not just us.
(I got Dean on a political quiz...and i like Clark as well..i just think Edwards can get those Pearls and Hanks without losing cool people like myself.;-)
