In today's LA Times,
this:
ATLANTA - Ruth Malhotra went to court last month for the right to be intolerant.
Malhotra says her Christian faith compels her to speak out against homosexuality. But the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she's a senior, bans speech that puts down others because of their sexual orientation.
Hey Ruth, maybe you'd want some protection if people gave you shit for being Christian. If people were smashing the heads of Christians and leaving them tied to a deer fence to die, say, outside Laramie, Wyoming, maybe you'd want some consideration.
And if New Year's Eve in some small town, say Falls City, Nebraska, it was considered sporting by some
to shoot and stab Christians, after having raped them days before, maybe you'd feel a little safer if there were rules against verbally abusing you for being, you know, a Christian. And if hate mongers were fire bombing Christian houses of worship and
shot gunning Christians in their beds, maybe, just maybe you'd want some protection.
Or if you googled the term anti-christian violence and got 934,000 results, maybe you'd resist anti-Christian bigots who wanted to roll back meager University Policies designed to protect you from hateful behavior.
And though I am straight, in the spirit of John Kennedy when he proclaimed Ich bin ein Berliner, please believe me with all your heart when I say, "I. AM. GAY." And Ruth, please don't hold back - tell me what you think. And then Ruth, when you are all done, I will tell you what I think of you.
