The Muslim watchdog group over at littlegreenfootballs is all lathered up because Fox network has "knuckled under" to the demands of "radical Islamist advocacy groups." Apparently, Fox's hit show "24" has caused a bit of a stir amongst Islamic communities for its harsh depiction of a Muslim family living the US and plotting a terrorist act. This is a show LGFer's can get all buttered up about because, you know, that's what those damnable 9/11 terrorists did. One does need to understand that, to the LGF crowd, pretty much any Muslim group is one of radical Islam. In fact, the name of this site might be more accurately described as Muslims Behaving Badly.
Now, we here at the BHC don't spend much time considering the ill-considered opinions of these raging bulls but this is a ripe example of the what has become typical right wing cant: ignore the excreable yapping of any right wing brethren and pounce on the in-kind emissions of any group not affiliated with the righteous cause of George Bush. Muslims are clearly such a group but one can't really call them left wing. There is not much that is terribly progressive in that religion: oppression of women and minorities, death sentences, theocratic principles as rule of law, etc. In fact, that sounds a lot like George Bush's vision of America. But however one may view Islam, left wing it most certainly is not. But to those at LGF and elsewhere in the right wing side of the globe, they are evil-doers and the LGF crowd is all over that.
So, LGF is freaked about the Fox caving to the yowling of Muslim groups. What is hilarious about their putative outrage is that there was nary a word from them when networks buckled under pressure from the morailstic twits who didn't want to hear soldiers swearing in war. No word from them when networks caved when religious right astroturfers raised hell about a locker room television commercial. No word from them about the astounding and incongruous outrage of "family values" bozos yowling about Janet Jackson's boob while skimpily clad cheerleaders bounced around the field or when SuperBowl sponsers launched the "lingerie superbowl."
Under Michael Powell and his bent-over posture at the FCC to appease Christian moralisers, there is only one thing the networks are now concerned about and that is controversy -- of any kind. It clearly doesn't matter whether it is Muslim groups yowling or Christian fundamentalists. The yowling alone is enough now to quash anything which might be offensive to anyone at anytime. That the networks are now behaving this way is a direct result of the barking of the religious right and that is whom the LGF crowd ought to be blaming for such appeasement.
Take that green nerf football foam out of your skulls and reinsert what might have been there previously.
