I think the chances of this happening are quite high, and I wonder if anyone has thought about the ramifications if it does occur ?
Consider: "The base" is even more motivated now than in 2000 - and there will be an extra 2.8 million Nader votes up for grabs. "The base" is concentrated in blue states and will not make a difference in all but a few red states.
The Democrats need to capture another two small states, or one big state, in 2004 to win the electoral vote. Ohio and Florida are the best bets for big states, but remain long shots. Jeb has had time to consolidate his grip on Florida, and Ohio has been Republican a long time.
New Hampshire will likely go "blue", and the other small state might be Nevada - another long shot where Harry Reid can barely win re-election.
So what happens if Bush wins, but doesn't really win according democratic principles. (which I know our country wasn't founded on) Millions of people will not recognize him as a true president, yet many elected Democrats will try and sweep it under the rug. What happens to the Democratic party in such an internal crisis ?
