I just heard on the news that the US has freed about 1000 people from Abu Ghraib to help the negociations with the sunnis.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the fact that they just freed A THOUSAND prisoners for purely political reasons either shows that: 1) they were held for political reasons or 2) they were held arbitrarily for no good reason.
Otherwise, how can you explain freeing them like that? I mean, I'm sure that they selected people who they think did only minor things, but if their release is completely arbitrary, how can their imprisonment not be arbitrary? I'm pretty sure that most of them are people who have been randomly picked up in the infamous nocturnal raids and have done all that time in that awful prison for basically nothing.
It reminds me of how Rummy will say that the people held at Guantanamo are "the worst of the worst, terrorists, etc". Yet they free a bunch of them without pressing any charges once in a while.
