One of the best ways to see the ignorance of wackiness of every day conservatives is to peruse the letters to the editor section of the local paper. Now, to give you an idea of the area I live in, my congressional district hasn't elected a Democrat in 124 years (at least) and has only 3 elected democrats to state offices (all three are second term state representatives).
I was planning on posting a different letter to start with, but one that was posted in Today's Kingsport Times-News blew my mind even more than most of them do, and that's hard to do.
So, for your personal enjoyment, here is today's letter:
Jerry Kilgore's campaign cannot be blamed for not succeeding because he never stood a chance in the first place. Don't blame his so-called attack ads because no type of ad could have overcome the predisposition of liberal voters in Eastern Virginia who outnumber Appalachians by far.
The only way Southwest Virginians as well as East Tennesseans will ever be properly represented by state government is to have a separate state from Roanoke thereabout to the west and from Knoxville thereabout to the east. Let those in Richmond and Nashville have their own liberal ways without subjecting their tyranny, taxation and teacher's unions on the good folk of this area. Maybe a secession movement seems extreme, but to quote Barry Goldwater, "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.'' I wholeheartedly support the separate, 51st state of TennVir.
The first thing I have to say to this letter writer is: you are about the biggest sore loser I have ever seen. You were probably one of the people who were telling liberals to "just leave the nation" after 2004. Well, at least your being consistent, if not stupidly so.
Second, Kilgore never had a chance? Wow, really? If Virginia is so liberal, why has it been something like 40 years since they voted for a Democrat in a presidential campaign. Why is it that they have two Republican Senators? Now that's what I call liberal!
Also, apparently this person also doesn't like Democracy unless it goes their own way. They first say "we win! We win! Live with it!" in 2004 to being like "boo hoo! We want to quit playing and go home!" after 2005.
I mean...really. This is the worst case of "taking my ball and going home" that I've seen in a long time. You lost an election so...lets form our own government so that we can make sure we don't lose again!
But finally, I don't like the new state name. TennVir? How uncreative can you get. Is that kind of like "timber"? Well, half of the smokey mountains would be included in this new state, so maybe this is just one way to show their intent to just chop the entire park down.
I like my name better. I present to you, the State of Stupidity:
