This dissent has significance given Newt Gingrich's close friendships with Rumsfeld and prominent Chickenhawks including Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz.

Political motives will no doubt be assigned to this statement, given Gringrich's reputation as a Washington power player.  Whatever his political objectives, one shouldn't lose sight of the potential insights contained within.  At least one prominent conservative understands that it's about "hearts and minds" and we are losing badly.
