A lot of you know I used to be famous around these parts for the plea to not eat our own. I always found it to be totally against our best interests to continue bashing the candidates but especially bad to bash their supporters. At one point I was using different posts to show the difference between eating and honest questioning. A few people thought I should start a thread along those lines. Kos even threatened to have me be the arbiter of eating.
Lately I have not only not made the plea, but I have been guilty of eating people myself. I found that I, and other supporters of Dean, had been on so many lunch and dinner menus that I just could not take it any more.
The Diary section has brought a whole new level of eating. At times it looks like an all you can eat smorgesboard. People scour the internet to find any story that will show any givn candidate in a bad light. Since this site has more Dean supporters than any other candidates, the attacks typically are against Dean. But occasionally the others have been served up as well. Rarely do you see a positive post regarding any ones favorite candidate. Instead you have to work hard to find out the chefs chosen candidate. Some people like to be contrary and or argumentative. Stratagem comes to mind but there are others. The difference between Strat and some of the chefs is that while he loves to attack people, Dean and his supporters especially, he usually has fair and honest points to make. He and I have battled, but in all honesty I can't help but admire him for usually having a point that is hard to refute.
While it is hard to argue with the fact that primary politics is by nature a partisan undertaking, I can't help but wonder if too many people are wasting their energy on negative posts as opposed to telling us why their candidate is better than the others. After all how many of us have switched to Edwards after reading a post by cw Petey? And how many people see the name on the diary list and know instinctively what that writters take will be.
So I will try to curb my appetite for a while. I have a feeling I will be unsuccessfull at times but that is the nature of politics and humanity itself.
