One of President Bush's worst appointments is scheduled to come before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this Thursday. John Bolton, who clearly despises the United Nations and everything it stands for, has been nominated to be the US ambassador to the UN. Exchanges between Bolton and members of the committee can be expected to be interesting. Will Bolton be contrite or combative for his past antagonistic comments?
If Democrats on the Committee can hold together against this nomination and pull over just one Republican, this nomination can go down to defeat (although there have been arguments that the nomination could be forwarded to the full Senate for approval somehow anyway). It is important to defeat this man to send a message to the Administration that the country and the Congress will not stand for another four years of an arrogant and self-righteous foreign policy that makes the US the pariah of the world.
The Council for A Livable World has a website that allows you to send a message to your senators to oppose this nomination. They also list all members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee so you can know if your senator is on it. Consider taking a moment to let your voice be heard. We need true diplomats in the UN, not provocateurs!
