A couple days ago, the Chicago Police Department launched a website with pictures of "johns" they've arrested, along with their names and partial addresses.
The site, http://www.chicagopolice.org/ps/list.aspx claimed 47,000 visits (not hits) between 9am-10pm the first day they kept records (yesterday). Today, the entire server is offline, apparently crushed by traffic as this story has been breaking with coverage from the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune.
Say what you want about the ethics of prostitution, and the laws surrounding it, isn't this an example of the
executive branch doing the job of the
judicial branch by punishing people without due process?
And speaking as a Chicago resident, if they really want to stop prostitution, they should just post pictures of some of the prostitutes we have here.
