There is an passing of the post-war era, more and more of the people who made it are leaving this world, and leaving behind a society that admires their voice and accomplishments, and yet, does not quite fit into the more patterened and stately rhythms of their prose and poetry. It is a loss, and, yet, a gain - in that "younger hands" might build a new city in this, our place and age.
We live not, in cities connected only by gossamer strands of wave through radio, nor thin voice that echoes over the copper caves of undersea cables - but with through broad and vast channels of information, that bind together the growing spheres.
But the key attribute of that passing generation was the grit to do one's duty. And now, faced with investigations into the workings of an Executive of tenuous legitmacy, the pressure is building for this generation to rise above unquestioning loyalty to a man, and begin, finally, to treat the dignity of government in the manner it deserves.
