Gas Price Gouging. Populism. We win - if we're not stupid

This follows-up G10's FP piece (yesterday) on Sen. Schumer taking on [ http://www.dailykos.com/... Big Oil's Price Gouging].

I write this to emphasize that if DKos can have 5,398,049,132 navel-gazing Meta Diaries on (my good friend) MSOC, then it can meme Price Gouging by Big Oil, enabled by Big Oil's good friend, the GOP, for a couple of days.

In fact, this should be a, if not the centerpiece (the Iraq debacle and picking a fight with Iran can certainly be tied into it), of Campaign 2006.

In sum, if prices at the pump were merely Big Oil's passing on its higher price per bbl on to the consumer, then it would not be setting profit records.  Period.  If Democrats take control of Capitol Hill, pump prices will go down (if not plummet) as Big Oil will have the choice:  stop the gouging, or get slapped with excess profit taxes.  It's a Populist Issue whose time as come.  Oh, and conservation and alternative fuels should be touted -- something GOoPers will never do.
