Modern rhetoric makes 'lazy union worker' the new 'welfare queen.' It seems that being in a union saps your work ethic, makes you impossible to fire no matter how much you mouth off and making even causes rapid tooth decay. And after all, since you are the big superstar, you don't have to worry about bargaining with all those other slobs - you are the superman of the company. They have to pay you what you demand, right?
Yet, there is a new union in town...
Golden Ties that Bind CEOs
The ultimate superhumans, the CEOs themselves, should be able to negotiate any pay that they want from a board. Straight-up, mano-y-mano with all those board members so skeptical of their value. But, wait, somehow the same faces keep showing up on the compensation boards.
If I was a more naive person, I would almost think that these CEO were asking their peers to help them negotiate compensation. It would be like they were ... "organizing" to maximize their deals with the company. So maybe there is something to this sticking together after all.
So, the next time you hear unions being trashed, here's just one more argument to employ. If it really was all about individual achievement, then why are the real money-men, the smart gamers, working together to get the best deal they can?
As they say - it's not what you know...
