Looks like the GOP may be feeling the heat from the Abramoff et al. corruption probes and the hearings over Bush's illegal spying on Americans. There is now the start of a pattern, in the past few days, of leading GOP attacking Democrats, using particularly harsh terms to accuse Democrats of improper conduct or emotional instability.
GOP McCain
"unleashed an unusually biting and blunt broadside" against Dem. Sen. Obama, accusing him of backtracking on a previous commitment to help develop a bipartisan proposal for lobbying and ethics reform.
McCain is just having a hissy fit that Obama is interested in presenting the position of the Democratic Caucus that reform legislation reflect majority support of the Senate and be discussed in a public forum while GOP-Lite Lieberman joined McCain's little task force.
True to form, Chris Matthews mischaracterized Obama's position, using words and a tone of voice dripping with insult and condescension:
Matthews mischaracterized Obama's position on ethics reform as, "I'm not dealing with you anymore in a bipartisan fashion." He claimed that "people will learn a lot from this about...the way in which Obama treated you." Finally, he asked McCain, "Do you think that Obama is behaving like a House member here rather than a Senator?"
Then we have Sen. Specter. After Reid says GOP law to provide asbestos victims' fund is designed so that companies can avoid lawsuits and was paid for by lobbyists, Specter accuses Reid of obstructionism and slander. Please, it is not news that the GOP continually create immunities to legal actions as well as bans on the types of lawsuits that can be filed in order to protect corporate America from accountability and responsibility.
And, the GOP party chair paints Hillary as full of anger.
Sounds like a very angry GOP with frayed nerves over where the next indictment will fall.
