There was a
diary last night discussing No Direction Home Part One but it seemed like most comments were written before folks had seen the movie. I am curious what folks thought now that they have seen Part One.
I was quite pleased with the movie. I thought it provided not only excellent insight into Bob's roots and early years but also a good snapshot of the folk scene in NYC from the very early 1960s. Maybe I haven't sought it out but I have not seen much on TV discussing that era in detail.
I've come to be a Bob fan more recently. I am 45 (today!) and have always liked Bob's music but I found his recent revival related to late 1990s albums to be invigorating. He is writing as well as well as ever in my opinion and I think the live shows are excellent, particularly with the old band featuring Larry Campbell.
I think Bob is true legend, one of the few in rock n'roll about who I can legitimately make that claim. The man has made a difference whether he wanted to or not, whether others wanted him to or not. His influence on the music scene is deep. In fact, as just one example, several times last night, I almost thought I was watching a documentary about the Boss.
Anyhow, I'd love to hear what you all thought?
