So, Bremer's going to be making another trip here to Washington. It appears that the boys pulling his strings might not be too happy with the way he's dancing.
[A] U.S. official recently told Reuters there is growing friction between Bremer and Washington, particularly over Bremer's resistance to accelerating the transfer of control from Americans to Iraqis.
The White House wants to run the show, even as they continue to miscalculate, inadequately plan, and generally screw everythign up, and they want everybody else to fall in line. No other single thing has been made more clear. When the U.N. didn't fall in line, the Bush Administration undermined its authority. When the field commanders in Iraq began to grumble about how poorly planned things were, the Bush Administration was quick to step up to the mic and drown out those voices. When Garner couldn't get it done, Bremer was put in in his place. When Rummy couldn't get it done, Rice was cooked up as a substitute.
Considering that, "Bremer left Baghdad for Washington at short notice and canceled a meeting on Tuesday with visiting Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller", things might not be looking too hot for him.
