This is my Christmas meditation.
America is enormous and powerful.
Built on the solid foundation of a brilliant constitution - 228 years later we stand at another important crossroads.
Brotherhood of Man, based on "Inalienable Rights" - can a nation this size understand and honor the meaning of these words - and insure this nation's survival?
Or will our worst instincts - Fear and Greed - turn this great land into a footnote?
This is my hope:
That the awful suffering being caused by America right now is enough of an impetus to wake people up to who we're supposed to be, as a people, as The American People.
I hope soon, no matter where you, my fellow citizens may walk in this world - that when someone asks where you are from - and you answer, "I'm American" - the first thought they have is how fortuate you must be to live in such a magnificent and just soceity. And that their first instict is not to fear you as a powerful bully, but to embrace you as a friend.
The days ahead will be interesting. Let's face them believing the best is possible. With the certainty that we can overcome the fear these "NeoCons" are attempting to use to enslave us.
To quote John Lennon once more this holiday season - "War is over, if you want it".
Merry Christmas.
