From Chuck via the DSCC email server:
I’m outraged. President Bush commuted Scooter Libby’s prison sentence wiping away two and half years of jail time with the stroke of a pen. President Bush ignored Libby’s felony conviction for lying to investigators, ignored the jury’s guilty verdict, and ignored the rule of law that governs our nation.
We expect more from our President. We expect honor and integrity, we expect moral leadership. We expect our President and his staff to be held to a higher standard.
Tell President Bush that you are appalled by his actions. Sign our petition today letting President Bush know that this outrageous conduct won’t be tolerated by the American people.
I couldn't help myself ...
I sent him the following very off-the-top-of-my-head unpolished response:
Dear Sen. Schumer --
Thank you for your e-mail message. I have been talking about the Scooter Libby sentence commutation all day. I have already exchanged outrage with my friends, my colleagues in the Financial Services sector and many of my neighbors with whom, until today, I've had only a nodding acquaintance, but who could not contain themselves today.
And now I express my outrage to you. I will not waste time expressing it to the most corrupt presidency in history.
And I must ask you ... What leadership will you and your colleagues show? My bet, and the bet of my friends, colleagues and my neighbors here in Stuyvesant Town Manhattan is that all you (the collective "you" of which you are a representative part) will do is spew empty rhetoric. You and your Democratic colleagues, with a few courageous and notable exceptions, will show the spinelessness, lack of leadership qualities, and fear of concrete action that the 2006 Congress has displayed thus far.
Do us and yourselves a favor and surprise us all!
I encourage all who get the above "you-are-my-sheep-and-I-am-your-spineless-shepherd" e-mail from Chuck or any other ovine-like Senator to respond to the Senator directly and ignore the useless (email-farming) link.
