Alberto Gonzales; Senate Democrats Must Take a Stand

As we look back on this past election and explore the reasons why we lost, one area that must be considered is the weakness of the Democrats in the Senate. While I despise most of what the Republicans stand for I have respect for their unity and ability to deliver to their constituents.
Consider the initial response of the Dems to the President's nomination of Alberto Gonzales for Attorney General. Let's not forget this man was a central figure in the administration's policy that led to the disastrous plan for military commissions and the torture at Gitmo, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
What was the Dems' response? He'll face "tough questioning" but will pass easily. Remember the hardball the Republicans played concerning Lani Gunier? It's time for us to do the same and this nomination is the best place to start.
