We're used to Bush flying around on Air Force One to various campaign stops, and he's not the first president to do such things. Then there were the ads promoting the new Republican Medicare law, paid for with tax money, apparently legally, despite being misleading.
Now TPM points to a new outrage. The front page of the House Committee on Resources site now sports an article criticizing recent remarks about oil
dependency by John Kerry and then going on to accuse him of "another flip-flop". What on earth is this doing on a government site? Why is
our tax money being spent on Bush campaign messages?
I've written to Eleanor Holmes Norton, the only person I have in
Congress, but she doesn't have a vote and thus isn't much listened to
by the people that do. Maybe some of you out there outside the
District, where citizens actually have representation, can write to
your Representatives.
The chair of the committee, Richard Pombo (R-CA-11) is currently unopposed for reelection. The Democrats had no candidate on the ballot for the March 2 primary. But a Pleasanton engineer with no political experience, Jerry McNerney, decided to run as a write-in candidate. The votes haven't been counted yet, but if he managed to get 1,740 votes he'll be on the ballot against Pombo in November.
I don't know that McNerney is the best place to spend your limited money for campaign donations, but it wouldn't hurt to send him a message of encouragement and let him know that even those of us outside California are disgusted at Pombo's behavior.
I sent McNerney a message and got this back:
Thanks for the heads-up. This is an outrage. I will notify the Kerry campaign.
