I can't believe that "oh so moderate" (as he styles himself) Tim Pawlenty said
this:
"I can tell you what your worst nightmare is. It's one of the big-spendin', tax-raisin', abortion-promotin', gay marriage-embracin', more welfare-without-accountability lovin', school reform-resistin', illegal immigration-supportin' Democrats for governor who think Hilary Clinton should be president of the United States."
Oh, where to start on this one....I could go on for days. Democrats don't like abortions anymore than GOPers do. Taxes and services are popular in Minnesota, and besides you raised taxes (except you lied and called it a "fee"). Don't even get me started on GOP corporate welfare without accountability. Finally, MN has the highest percentage of college graduates in the nation. I'd say Minnesota's schools are just fine as is without your "reform", Tim.
Now on to the DFLers
The three main candidates for Governor are Attorney General Mike Hatch, State Senator Steve Kelley, and State Senator Beckey Lourey.
Hatch strikes me as what some people call a "ladder climbing hack", although in fainess, he is our hack, and an electable one at that. Beckey Lourey seems like a very nice woman, but doesn't seem like she has as firm a grasp of the issues as Kelley or Hatch do. I think Lourey would make a great candidate for Congress, and she seems really passionate about Iraq.
That leaves Steve Kelley, who strikes me as a knowledgable guy, especially on education and tax issues who isn't out for himself. He seems to have the best ideas about where the state is going, and he hails from the Minneapolis suburbs, an area where Dems will have to do well to win.
The DFL State Convention is next weekend, and one of these three is going to get the endorsement. There are others here who can probably talk about this in more detail than I.
