sports stars and gotv

i wondered why in the 2000 primary/election bill bradley didn't get his buddies from the nba to help him/gore out.  i don't know their politics, but i would have thought they might have helped bradley.

bushco. is trotting out the nascar head as part of their strategy, why not find amenable sports stars on the dem side?

i don't mean endorsements - who cares that barkley likes edwards - but for get out the vote campaigns.  if hakeem olajuwon led an election day march to the polls in houston, rove would crap his pants, perhaps.   maybe another example would be better, but you get the idea.
