Apparently the 1600 Crew doesn't want no freedom hating "French Food" served...
first lady laura bush fired 11-year white house chef walter scheib earlier this month, his replacement has been sought under the kind of secrecy accorded cabinet appointments or oval office scandals.
scheib, hired from the greenbriar resort in west virginia by hillary rodham clinton in 1991, brought modern american cooking to the white house after a long reign of french cuisine initiated by the kennedys. he survived the first bush term but not the second. pastry chef roland mesnier was replaced last year.
scheib told the new york times that his sin was failing to "satisfy the first lady's stylistic requirements." laura bush's press secretary, gordon johndroe, said friday that "the beginning of a second term is a good time for change." - sfchronicle
"stylistic requirements?" wtf are those? Did he (god forbid) put
beans in Texas Chili? Or did they realize that his cooking credentials were outstandingly real and they are only accepting fake credentials these days....
theswiftreport has a delicious satire on the event:
after 11 years as white house chef, walter scheib III has been pushed out of the kitchen by first lady laura bush. while scheib says he wants to leave on a positive note, insiders say that the 'top toque' was unhappy at the bush's insistence that he give up all french recipes and cooking techniques, and create an elaborate inaugural menu paying tribute to
the brand names of a dozen top bush campaign and gop donors.
..."scheib has proven that he can pretty much do anything. where else are they going to tell him he can't use a mirepoix and that he has to come up with dishes out of coke and doughnuts?"
