Anyone want to start a Kos-office pool on which justices go where on this issue?
Ten Commandments are coming to the Supreme Court this week, and those of us who think that the First Amendment specifically precludes these types of monuments are hoping for an acknowledgement on the part of the court that "the establishment clause" means just that. The state should not be establishing a religion. There is no violation of the 'free exercise' clause here; no one is telling anyone they can't go to their house of worship and do whatever they want. So how can this possibly be an issue?
A refresher on the First Amendment:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
