This national nightmare of the writers strike is really getting out of hand. We all suffer in our own way, but the latest Bill Maher show is more than the country can bear.
It's not that we don't get the cute little intro scene.
It's not that we don't get the cute products in the middle of the show.
It's not even that we don't get "New Rules", even though it's a national treasure.
It's not really writing at all. More after the break.
It's the guests! Ever since the show came back from hiatus most of the typical guest from the left haven't been willing to cross the picket line at CBS Television City. This week we got the repugnant Jonah Goldberg, ex Bushie Matthew Dowd, P.J. O'Rourke, and Amy Holmes direct from the CPAC conference. The only one not obviously a Republican was Bob Costas.
Last week was Frank Lutz, Darrell Issa, Kim Gandy, Clarence Page, and Matt Taibbi.
There have been exceptions, but the picket line has kept most of the typical Bill Maher guests away. It's not an improvement. I can live with Bill writing his own jokes, but I don't want to see him chat with three Republicans for an hour.
End of rant. It's not much of a diary but it's late so nobody will notice.
