Way back in 2004, "Dick" Cheney warned us what would happen if that elite liberal John Kerry got elected: "If we make the wrong choice, then the danger is that we'll get hit again -- that we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States."
When the people in our gov't start to look like ghouls and vampires, it's time to start asking some questions....
This week, "He Who Looks Like He Sleeps In A Coffin" said that he thinks we, the people, are way too picky about those silly little things called "Rights". You remember, as in "Bill Of"? We're apparently getting caught up in the minutiae of "democracy" and "by the people" and all those other buzzwords from that pre-9/11 mindset.
CHERTOFF SAYS NEW LAWS NEEDED
At a speech before the Heritage Foundation this week, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the U.S. needs to have a "nonpoliticized, serious discussion" while writing new laws to define the best way to combat terrorism.
First of all, I'm sure it hasn't gone unnoticed that these guys only speak before groups who can be counted on to think as they do, right?
And second, does anyone else get the feeling that "nonpoliticized, serious discussion" means we listen to them and don't talk back, don't ask questions! ? Well yes, it means exactly that, because:
Chertoff said that once laws are written, the public should not second-guess government actions and claim that federal officials are overstepping their authority. He decried critics who make such accusations, despite the widespread public calls after the September 11, 2001 attacks for the U.S. government to do more to protect the country. Chertoff further said U.S. society needs to come to a determination as to what are acceptable authorities for the U.S. government versus what violates people's rights.
Now, I wasn't one of those 'fraidy-cons making "widespread public calls" after 9/11, pleading from under the bed, "Protect me, save us, oh mighty Bushies!" I expect our leaders to do their job and, you know, actually LEAD, keeping out in front of situations that might have harmful side-effects, such as "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US."
(the least they could've done was have that little tattooed guy yelling, "Ze plane! Ze plane!")
And remember what Unca Dick said, 'cause now Count Chertoffula's going to up the ante:
If the public limits what the government can do, it must accept that the risk of terrorist attacks may increase, he said. If the public gives the government greater authorities, it should not criticize the government for using those authorities at a later date.
" 'At's a nice country you got there.... be a shame if sump'n happened to it."
See, not only are they gonna getcha, but it's your own damn fault to boot! And don't forget what you were told, don't talk back, don't ask questions!
Chertoff called U.S. laws "woefully inadequate" in the context of current technology. He said the most significant step American society needs to take is adapting laws to the 21st Century challenge of fighting terrorism. Changes in technology have created unique challenges for the government when it comes to intercepting communications, as well as collecting and analyzing information found in the public domain according to Chertoff.
Heh.... for people who haven't even been able to hold onto their email archives (coughbullshitcough), it's hard to figure out how THEY think they are the ones capable of adapting laws to the current state of technology.
Oh, and my best guess? Michael Chertoff was either abused as a child by Nazis or had the crap scared out of him by clowns at the circus. Both? Nazi clowns? Yeah, I'd buy that....
