Yup, guys like Newt Gingrich know what's good for America. More terror attacks.
"This is ... one of the great tragedies of the Bush administration," Gingrich continued. "The more successful they've been at intercepting and stopping bad guys, the less proof there is that we're in danger. And therefore, the better they've done at making sure there isn't an attack, the easier it is to say, 'Well, there never was going to be an attack anyway.' And it's almost like they should every once in a while have allowed an attack to get through just to remind us."
What a patriotic Republican hero this man is! It's a shame he didn't run for President!
He also believes there should be a crack team of FBI agents who are given extraordinary abilities to spy on all of us:
Gingrich then recommended splitting the FBI into a domestic crime unit, which would respect civil liberties, and a "small but very aggressive anti-terrorism agency" with "extraordinary ability to eavesdrop."
I suppose he feels that they would never spy on him. No, the theft of civil liberties is for the "little people", not great patriotic Americans like himself.
The video of this inspiring speech is here.
Newt Gingrich isn't the only great American who feels that America should suffer more terror attacks in order to be somehow cured of its malaise. The mastermind of the Iraq invasion, Donald Rumsfeld, feels the same way. Bemoaning the idiocy of the American people in electing Democrats into power in 2006, Rummy said the following:
This President's pretty much a victim of success. We haven't had an attack in five years. The perception of the threat is so low in this society that it's not surprising that the behavior pattern reflects a low threat assessment. The same thing's in Europe, there's a low threat perception. The correction for that, I suppose, is an attack.
This is the same Donald Rumsfeld who in June of 2001 mandated that in the event of any hijacking of airliners, any assistance provided by the Department of Defense would have to be approved by Donald Rumsfeld himself. How conveeeenient .....
a. Aircraft Piracy (Hijacking) of Civil and Military Aircraft. Pursuant to references a and b, the Administrator, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), has exclusive responsibility to direct law enforcement activity related to actual or attempted aircraft piracy (hijacking) in the "special aircraft jurisdiction" of the United States. When requested by the Administrator, Department of Defense will provide assistance to these law enforcement efforts. Pursuant to reference c, the NMCC is the focal point within Department of Defense for providing assistance. In the event of a hijacking, the NMCC will be notified by the most expeditious means by the FAA. The NMCC will, with the exception of immediate responses as authorized by reference d, forward requests for DOD assistance to the Secretary of Defense for approval.
This same approval was required for "Destruction of Derelict Airborne Objects". You want to destroy a derelict airborne object, you gotta talk to Rummy first! Doesn't matter if he's in the shower, getting a massage, or playing "Risk" and not answering his red phone, you gotta talk to him first.
And just for the hell of it, there are other Friends of the Neocons who feel that the terror attacks are a very very good thing:
Benjamin Netanyahu said that "9/11 was very good for Israel:
The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv on Wednesday reported that Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu told an audience at Bar Ilan university that the September 11, 2001 terror attacks had been beneficial for Israel.
"We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq,"
Oh, and let's not forget that the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) prior to the 2000 election theft that put their boy George W. Bush in power stated that what this country really needed to achieve its goals was a "new Pearl Harbor".
Again, how conveeeeeenient ....
Of course, if anyone were to suggest that these people, who so desperately want a terror attack on the U.S., might just be highly motivated to perhaps help one along, even a teeny little bit, they would be the crazy ones. Not people like Newt Gingrich. It must be true, it's in the FAQ.
But all that aside, the thing to remember is that Republicans want terror in our country.
They've come out and said it.
This is the party of John McCain. They're the Party that desires terror attacks in the United States.
You know, it's a "tough love" kind of thing.
