The tawdry attempt by the McCain campaign to fabricate a terrorist link between Senator Obama, and Professor William Ayers, was a failure. It did open the gate for wider examinations of the candidates' past associations. This isn't good news for John Sidney McCain III.
Shall we first examine his ties to organized crime, or the Ku Klux Klan? This started with terrorist accusations, so let's look at McCain's work with the Klan and death squads. We can go into his Mob connections anytime.
The umbrella group, is the "World Anti-Communist League," (WACL) founded in 1966 by Chiang Kai-shek. It was common in the 1950s and 1960s to hear John Birch Society members and other fringe-right characters ranting about "Unleashing Chiang Kai-Shek." Chairman Mao's army had chased Chiang's forces to the sanctuary of the island of Formosa, which we now know as Taiwan. Had General Chiang been "unleashed," the Red army would have made short work of him.
Reagan and his allies loved those guys. They got help from the corporate right in the US.
"When the Reagan Administration began organizing the Nicaraguan Contras in 1981, allied but nominally private groups were formed to build support for the Contra plans.
One of those groups, formed shortly after the first Reagan inauguration, was the US Council for World Freedom, headed by Major General John Singlaub. The USCWF quickly became the US branch of the World Anti-Communist League. The USCWF began building support for the Reagan policy of aiding not only the Nicaraguan Contras but RENAMO and UNITA in southern Africa and rightist Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan. Singlaub informed CIA director William Casey and NSC staff of his actions and operated with their consent if not under their direct influence.
One of the early USCWF financial backers was Joe Coors, according to two former USCWF treasurers. Coors shared Reagan's enthusiasm for the Contras despite early indications of the unsavory background of certain Contra leaders and reliable reports of Contra acts of brutality. The Contras were originally known as the 15th of September Legion. Their earliest training came from Argentinean military intelligence, which ran death squads in that country and sponsored a Latin American conference of death squad leaders in 1980. That death squad network was also the Latin American branch on WACL. In 1982, Argentinean intelligence worked with Moon's Unification Church and fugitive Nazi Klaus Barbie to establish a Nazi-style state in Bolivia.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Reagan Administration was in political alliance with fugitive Nazi war criminal, Klaus Barbie. Does it stink bad enough, yet? Did you catch the "rightist Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan?" They became the Taliban. Gosh General Singlaub, thanks so much for helping those guys pull themselves up with out tax dollars.
The other very important development of the 1980s was the appearance of the first "border watch" groups. First organized by Tom Posey as part of his Civilian Military Assistance (CMA) organization, the CMA operated as a shadow wing of the Reagan administrations illegal Contra network. Posey and the CMA began as an adjunct to the Alabama Ku Klux Klan.
They were first active in smuggling weapons to Central America with the assistance of a Defense Intelligence Agency operation called "Yellow Fruit" and later absorbed into Oliver North’s Contra re-supply operation. Posey was later indicted for violations of the Neutrality Act for his gunrunning activities. North and Reagan administration officials intervened in the trial and the charges were dismissed under the curious grounds that the Neutrality Act only applied during peacetime and the Contra operation was the equivalent of a formal state of war.
Racist Origins of Border Militias

There were several factions of Klan which participated in the Civilian Military Assistance, later the Civilian Material Assistance program. I published a few articles on that myself, during the 1980s. (The national tabloid Zenger, which I edited, did a four-page spread on WACL in 1987.) Appreciate that WACL managed to collect into itself, Fugitive Nazis, Alabama Klansmen, Rev Moon, Taliban, Asian mobsters, Latin-American death squads, and put campus evangelical cults in the US, on the street to support the package. The idea that the Reagan White House intervened on behalf of the leader of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan, is barely unusual with all the other stuff.
There was a national PR campaign to garner support for the Contras. During the mid-1980s, Barry Jackson was the chair of the Johnson County, Iowa, Republican Party. He handled an extensive rent-a-mob and dirty tricks operation, which chased then-candidate Tom Harkin around to disrupt rallies. During that period, I ran into Barry Jackson and Mike Connell at the Deadwood, an Iowa City campus bar. (Yes, the Mike Connell currently in trouble for hacking election computers for Karl Rove,) We were not friends, but enjoyed arguing. I invited them back to my home on Bloomington street, where we continued drinking and debating. During that session, Jackson bragged of his involvement of burglaries at several East-Coast CISPES (committees In Support of El Salvador) offices.
As we sat in Iowa City, knocking back my brandy, John McCain was on the board of the group smuggling weapons to the Contras, in full violation of US law.
In McCain's case, he was a House member and a board member of Singlaub's council when, as a new congressman, he voted for military assistance to the Nicaraguan Contras, a CIA-organized guerrilla force. In 1984, Congress cut off military assistance to the rebels.
Months before the cutoff, top Reagan administration officials ramped up a secret White House-directed supply network run by national security advisers Robert McFarlane and John Poindexter. The operation's day-to-day activities were handled by National Security Council aide Oliver North, who relied on retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Richard Secord to carry out the operation. The goal was to keep the Contras operating until Congress could be persuaded to resume CIA funding.

John McCain served on the board of CMA, from 1981 until 1986. Yes, McCain says he resigned in 1984, but there are reports to the contrary. If we've learned anything this season, it is that John Sidney McCain III, is an habitual liar.
In an interview last month, Downey, the full-time employee of Singlaub's council, said she has a clear memory of McCain resigning in 1986, but not earlier.

Barry Jackson, graduated from the University of Iowa, and went back to Ohio. He was an aide for John Boehner. Then he handled the "Contract for America," for Newt Gingrich. Jackson delivered the White House greetings to the conference the old Nazis held in Europe. Barry Jackson even facilitated a junket of congressmen to the Marianis Islands, where they stood in line to be felated by sub-minimum wage slave women, and collect cash from the Tan family.
In 2007, Barry Jackson took over the desk and most duties of Karl Rove. In May of 2008, Jackson was in planning meetings with John McCain's campaign staff.
The lesson of this history, is that the same group of criminal operatives will wrap themselves in our flag, lie to our faces, and continue as an ongoing criminal enterprise. We could obviously look forward to more of the same, under a McCain-Palin administration.
Not. This. Time.
