I'm getting deathly sick of people saying that it's impossible to be triumphal and work hard toward victory, that we must be very afraid and lacking in confidence or no one will volunteer for the campaign or go to the polls. That's just silly. If fear and panic make you work harder, then go ahead and panic.
But please don't assume it's that way for everyone. There's this thing called depression that feeds on panic and lack of hope and leads to giving up. Don't feed the hopelessness.
We're up in the national poles and we're way up in the polls that really matter, the electoral vote count. That's fantastic, it's giving hope to a lot of people and hope is the thing that motivates many of those people to work hard.
Don't assume that what motivates you motivates others. Let the optimists work from optimism and the pessimists work from pessimism and cut each other some slack.
Those of us who are feeling mighty good about the poles can walk the walk of work and chew the gum of triumphalism at one and the same time. Telling us that's not possible is shooting at your allies. Stop it.
