We have a problem here in Utah. No, it's not our drinking laws, or funny underwear. His name is Jason Chaffetz. He is a Republican. He's a Mormon convert. He's the GOP nominee for Congress. (UT-3)
He thinks global warming is 'a farce', wants to put illegal immigrants into 'tent cities' surrounded with barbed wire, AND, supports a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.
Jason Chaffetz's father is John Chaffetz. John is the author of Gay Reality; The Team Guido Story. The reviews are in:
Team Guido showed mainstream America that gay couples are not only charismatic, but also that they can be stable, loyal and devoted, with longevity. -- Genre Magazine
A welcome down-to-earth couple, between the buffed up boys of "Queer as Folk and the campy histrionics of "Will and Grace. Their long term relationship should be of value to any young gay man in search of level headed role models and a sense of their community's history.--Christopher Rice, Bestselling Novelist
John Chaffetz believes there are 'political and sociological changes on the horizon with respect to homosexual/lesbian issues', and considers his book a work promoting tolerance and hopes it will 'invoke thought by all readers, should they hear a friend, relative or close family member is gay or lesbian'.
As of this writing the Mormon Church has pumped tens of millions of dollars into California to pass Proposition 8; a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. Today's Salt Lake Tribune reports that our (yes our, I am Mormon) church's effort to stop gay marriage is among the most vigorous since the 1970's.
Orson Scott Card, a writer for the Mormon Times describes the Church's opposition to gay marriage:
Legalizing gay marriage has huge legal implications far beyond letting same-sex couples enter into marriage contracts. Once "marriage" has been so radically redefined, it will become unlawful and discriminatory for schools or any other public facility to favor, for instance, heterosexual dating or dancing.
Since our culture (like all human cultures throughout all of history) is oriented toward promoting the maximum opportunity for reproductive success for all members of the community, but channeled in a way that will best promote the survival of the community, such a radical change should not be entered into lightly.
According to Advocate.com;
Californians Against Hate released figures Tuesday showing that $17.67 million was contributed by 59,000 Mormon families since August to groups like Yes on 8. Contributions in support of Prop. 8 total $22.88 million. Additionally, the group reports that Mormons have contributed $6.9 million to pass a a similar law, Proposition 102, in Arizona
.
Most of these families live in the district where John Chaffetz's son Jason is running for Congress. I'd like to send all 59,000 a copy of John Chaffetz's book.
