At the DSCC blog the Deputy Communications Director (Cara Morris)
proclaimed the Democratic Party was unified including the claim "we have the issues". I asked what these issues were. Ms. Morris gave me a list of issues (see below). I wasn't impressed and said so.
I was then challenged to come up with better issues. Here's my challenge to my fellow dKossers. I think we can write a Dem message that will do better with all major constituencies than the list presented by the DSCC.
What should be in the blogger Democratic campaign message?
- Invest the surplus to strengthen Social Security and Medicare, and pay off the debt by 2013
- Protect and modernize Medicare and provide an affordable prescription drug benefit for all seniors
- Help communities improve public education with quality teachers, smaller classes, greater accountability, and modern schools
- Pass a real, enforceable Patients' Bill of Rights that returns medical decisions to doctors and protects HMO patients from insurance company abuses
- Enact responsible tax cuts that support families and provide educational opportunity
- Provide affordable health insurance coverage to uninsured Americans
- Make our communities safer by putting more cops on the street, keeping guns and drugs out of schools, and providing after-school opportunities for our children
- Raise the minimum wage, enforce equal pay laws for women in the workplace, and extend prosperity to America's economically underserved areas
- Protect the environment and create livable communities
- Empower consumers to protect and control the privacy of their personal, financial, and medical records
- Advance the growth of technology and fully realize the potential of the Internet for all Americans
- Democrats have a fiscally responsible plan that uses the opportunity of a surplus to strengthen Social Secu-rity and Medicare, and to pay off the entire national debt by 2013.
- Democrats are prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century, including providing a quality education for our children, affordable health care for our families, and a secure retirement for our seniors.
